R.I.P. Opus Davi

R.I.P. Opus Davi

For the last ten years, ever since my joining with Schattenspieler, Opus Davi has died a very slow and painful death. It seemed alive and well for a while, especially in those very creative days, when every other song I wrote, was turned down by Schattenspieler and thus became part of my ever-growing portfolio of "non-dark rock" songs.

Yet, at this point, I feel that this whole project is going nowhere. The new studio, which was supposed to have been finished by the end of 2008, is still an abandoned ruin and I don't want to use computers instead of the amazing lot of musicians that stand ready to record the album with me. And since Opus Davi is - or rather was - an evolving, free-spirited project, which was supposed to give my fellow musicians the opportunity to experiment with the songs I wrote, I see no point in renting a studio for three or four days to do hasty  recordings which deprive the whole album of all the creative energy it would have had otherwise.

For that reason, I have decided to abandon the project, at least for the time being.

I might eventually put some of the better computer demos and feasibility studies online, and maybe I'll rearrange a track or two and make them more dark rock compatible and less prone to be rejected by the band.

This doesn't mean that there will never be such a thing as an Opus Davi album, but it means there won't be any in the near and foreseeable future.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who were willing (or even anxious) to participate, namely:

Christian "Kreini" Kreinberg

Henning Wanner

Jens "Jay" Rösel

Brigitte Berg

Korry Schadwell

Nicole "Amazia" Köhnen

René Grün

Dennis Strillinger

Ilija Jelusic

Oliver Henrich

Chris “Gahaed” Wandel

Robert Resinek

Henning Holstein

and the handful of Opus Davi fans who believed in me.

I am extremely sorry to have to disappoint you guys.

That being said, I’m still very much available for *your* projects, so if you want me to sing a track on your solo projects, just let me know.

That goes for everyone, even if you don’t appear on the above list. Send me your material!

Again, my sincerest apologies to everyone who waited to take part in or listen to Opus Davi. Our time shall come eventually.

Love,

Dave
